About Us

Encounters@Shalom is the education department of The Shalom Institute. The vision of The Shalom Institute is to foster Jewish engagement and increase the vibrancy of our community through Jewish learning, social and cultural activities, leadership development and outreach within the post-secondary school sector focusing on young adults and centred around Shalom College facilities.

The Shalom Institute is comprised of:

1. Encounters@Shalom / Adult Education

2. Network / Fusion / Young Adult Services 

• Network promotes Jewish life and engagement for young adults in the  25 – 39 age-range
• Fusion promotes Jewish life and engagement for young adults in the  20 – 25 age-range.  
• Maintains an up-to-the-minute website of young adult programs, services and activities.  
• Operates a free Jewish internet dating site, Two Of A Kind
• Presents diverse programs, ranging from social, educational, networking and cultural activities.  

3. Hillel / Jewish Student Services  

• Supports AUJS - the Australasian Union of Jewish Students 
• Promotes Jewish life, Israel and engagement/affiliation on university campuses.  
• Provides educational and counselling services to Jewish uni students in NSW and ACT.  
• Presents leadership development and Israel advocacy programs for students. 

4. Shalom College 

• A Jewish residential college at the University of NSW for 130 residents and 6 tutors.  
• Eric Caspary Conference Centre – a community resource centre with kosher catering.  
• Scholarship program for Aboriginal medical students – 14 in 2010.
