Oil, Politics & the Middle East
Presented by Edwin Black

If it wasn’t for oil, relations between the West and countries in the Middle East would surely be very different. How did Middle East oil become the lifeblood of the West and attain such influence? How does oil shape foreign policy today? Learn about the background to our current predicament and consider what the future may hold, over four compelling weeks:
1.  The history of oil and energy in the Middle East;
2.  How the West came to the Middle East amid war and political machinations in search of oil;
3.  The epic secret pact that governed the oil, The Redline Agreement;
4.  What the world will do if the oil flow is interrupted.

This course is based on four of Black’s bestselling books: Banking on Baghdad, Internal Combustion, The Plan, and British Petroleum and The Redline Agreement.

The Bizarre World of Christian Zionism - UNFORTUNATELY WE HAVE HAD TO CANCEL THIS COURSE
Presented by
Dr Paul O'Shea

"Christian Zionism" seems like a strange combination at first glance.  However, the reality of more than a few branches of Christianity that espouse a devotion to Zion and Zionism is fascinating.  Who are these people and what do they believe about Jesus, Jews, Judaism, Zionism and Israel?  Are they romantic philo-semites or something else?  And where do they fit in with mainstream Judaism and Christianity?"

Dates: Mon 16th, Mon 23rd, Mon 30th May, & Mon 6th June
