Israeli Identity Through Literature

The development of Israeli literature reflects in many ways the history of the State of Israel. This course will explore short stories by great authors like Amos Oz, AB Yehoshua and Yehuda Amichai, consider the contributions of women writers, and examine powerful themes which appear across Israeli literature.

Perhaps the greatest threat to world peace, and certainly to Israel’s physical security, Iran is a paradox. An ancient and noble civilization which once was home to a thriving Jewish community, today Iran is governed by extremists. Experts on Iranian society and politics and military analysts will join Peter Wertheim in trying to unravel and understand some of the complexities of this volatile and powerful country.

Children always ask difficult questions which we often struggle to answer. This course will explore challenging moral questions and equip parents with the knowledge and Jewish understanding to respond effectively. Examine different perspectives on critical Jewish issues with two of Sydney’s top Jewish educators (who are also parents) in this unique, pluralist learning experience.
