New Responses to Israel’s Defence Challenges
Presented by Ron Ben Yishai
$120 / $60 concession

Israel faces a hybrid array of security threats from state and non-state adversaries. While Israel’s defence establishment and intelligence community have so far managed to deal with conventional wars and traditional terror, they must rapidly devise effective responses to several new challenges, including new forms of terror and a highly sophisticated cyber war. In doing so, they are forced to consider, more than ever before, the diplomatic and political fall-out internationally. This course will analyse the threats facing Israel and her new strategic and tactical responses.

Dates:  Monday 2 August, Monday 9 August, Monday 16 August, Monday 23 August

When Jews Argue: The World of Talmud - COURSE CANCELED
Presented by Tommy Sterling

The Talmud has been the cornerstone of Rabbinic Judaism for close to 2 millennia and is renowned for its unique form of logic and argument. In this non-technical course suitable for both beginners and the initiated, students will be introduced to the content of the Talmud, including the Talmud's views on women, sex, Gentiles and Jesus, and other topics of interest. We will also cover a range of topics such as who wrote the Talmud and when, why it was written, the dynamic between majority and minority opinions, and why the Talmud has had such lasting influence. Along the way we will consider the Talmud in history and how Jews and Gentiles have reacted to it.

French Jews on the Brink: Then & Now - COURSE CANCELED

Antisemitism is on the rise in France. French Jews are making aliyah in unprecedented numbers, leaving a much-loved land to seek security. Israel’s Foreign Relations: Adjusting to New Realities
Presented by Ron Ben Yishai
$120 / $60 concession

Israel seems to be under siege politically like we have rarely seen before, with an ascendant Iran, a critical US Administration, an anti-Western Islamist government in Turkey, and a bizarre coalition of radical left wing and Islamist organisations lobbying to de-legitimize Israel. Will Israel’s adversaries succeed? How do these and other developments influence US-Israel relations? How do they affect United States’ standing in the Middle East? What impact do they have on Israel’s national security, especially efforts to prevent Iran from getting 'the bomb'? And how do these developments shape efforts to put an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? This course will address these issues and more.

Dates:  Tuesday 3 August, Tuesday 10 August, Tuesday 17 August, Tuesday 24 August
