About the Sydney Jewish Writers' Festival
The Sydney Jewish Writers' Festival aims to celebrate the richness of Australian and world-wide Jewish writing. It is an exciting feature of the country's Jewish cultural landscape, bringing together some of the most significant contributors to Australian literary life.
The objectives of the SJWF are:
- to showcase writers who embrace their Jewish identity and/or who write on Jewish themes, regardless of their personal backgrounds
- to promote the talents and the ideas of writers by introducing them to audiences who have not yet read their writing and by enabling those who have read their work to meet the author behind the story, idea or research
- to expose the Jewish community to the range of subjects and ideas which are explored in contemporary Jewish writing
- to create for the Jewish community a meaningful cultural experience and connection to its cultural heritage
- to reach out and involve both the affiliated and relatively unaffiliated members of the Jewish community – and, by so doing, encouraging the latter to participate more actively in educational and cultural activities in the Jewish community.
