'Freedom'

In a world where the overwhelming majority of people live in poverty and under oppression, how do we maintain our belief in redemption and in the great Jewish idea of ‘Freedom’?

For the two weeks leading up to Pesach, we will explore different perspectives of ‘Freedom’, bringing together thinkers and practitioners from the Jewish and broader communities. Moderated by Joanna Kalowski.

PART 1: ‘Freedom & Liberation: What’s the Difference?’
Featuring:

  • Dr Yoram Bilu professor of anthropology and psychology, Hebrew University of Jerusalem
  • Prof Clive Kessler Emeritus Professor of Sociology at UNSW
  • Andrew Kuper founder and president of LeapFrog Investments, the world's first microinsurance fund
  • Bassina Farbenblum Senior Lecturer and Director of the Migrants and Refugees Rights Project at UNSW

PART 2: ‘Oppression, Freedom and Democracy’
Panelists include:

  • Rabbi Paul Jacobson teacher and Rabbi at the Emanuel Synagogue
  • Rachael Kohn broadcaster and author on religion and spirituality
  • Dr Vera Ranki award-winning author and academic
  • Elina Doronkina performer who worked in TV under the KGB

Time: 7.30 - 9.30pm
Venue: Eric Caspary Learning Centre, Shalom College
Price: $15 / $5 (concession) per session, $25 for both sessions
